DESCRIPTION:Citizens Police Academy is an opportunity for citizens to learn firsthand about police operations in the Town of Lexington\, SC through a series of lectures\, field trips\, ride-a-longs\, and stimulated activities. Citizens are provided training similar to that of an actual police officer. The Academy is a benefit to the community and the department because it builds relationships and creates a group of citizens who are better informed about the reality of police work. \n\n\n\nFORMAT:\n\nThe Academy meets one night a week for nine weeks with most classes held between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm.\n\n\n\nLOCATION:\n\nUnless otherwise specified\, classes are conducted at the Police Department's training facility. Some off-site visits are made to other relevant locations. \n\n\n\nINSTRUCTION:\n\nInstruction is provided by Police Department personnel. \n\n	Completely Voluntary\n	Classroom Setting\n	No Physical Requirements\n	Snacks and Drinks Provided\n	Demonstrations and Hands on with Officer Equipment\n	Ride-a-Longs (In the Police Officers' Vehicle)\n	Officers Teach the Classes\n	Upon Graduation you Qualify for VIPS (Volunteers in Police Services)\n\nQUALIFICATIONS:\n\nMust be a minimum of 18 years of age. Applicant must either live or work within the Town Limits of Lexington. Must pass a criminal history background check.
